Viruses - The New Cancer Hunters

New Castle Disease Virus is a bird virus that is being studied in the treatment of cancer. It may be used to kill cancer cells directly, or it may be given as a cancer vaccine to stimulate the body’s immune system, and belongs to the families of drugs called biological response modifiers and vaccine therapy.
Now, researchers from the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School have succeeded in isolating a variant of the Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV-HUJ), in order to specifically target cancer cells.
The research, which has already cleared the first phase of clinical trials, is already patented and if all goes well it might receive an approval for clinical use. Learn more...
